AP "U.S. Customs and Border officers are searching the electronic devices of travelers much more often than in the past and "did not always follow proper protocol"
Phones and other devices searched were not taken offline, that's a violation as officers can search the physical device but not what’s on a traveler’s cloud network.
There were 29,000 devices searched out of the 397 million travelers to the U.S. in 2017, That's up from 18,400 the year before from 390 million travelers.
