NY subway attack suspect targeted subway 'because of Christmas posters"

SOURCE - Akayed Ullah, the 27-year-old suspect, claimed he was inspired by the self-styled Islamic State and chose the hallway where he planned to detonate a pipe bomb because of its holiday-themed posters. The IS group has not claimed him as a member.

Governor Cuomo confirms that it was the chemical in the pipe that blew up, not the pipe... possibly saving many lives

SOURCE - We’re learning more about the suspected bomber in yesterday’s attempted terror attack at New York City's Port Authority Bus Terminal. Senior law enforcement officials say that 27-year-old Akayed [[Eye-KAY-ed]] Ullah [[oo-LAH]] came to the United States in February 2011 with an immigrant visa.

He has a green card and is a permanent resident of the U.S., currently living in Brooklyn. Ullah [[oo-LAH]] also has a New York City taxi driver's license and recently worked at an electric company. At this time, he is not believed to have had any prior contact with law enforcement officials or been the subject of any terrorism investigations here or in his native Bangladesh. Even so, Ullah has reportedly admitted he was inspired by ISIS.

As for what exactly happened, NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill has confirmed that Ullah was wearing an improvised, low tech explosive device attached to his body, when it went off in a subway passageway around 7:20 local time yesterday morning.

Five people were injured, though none seriously – though Ullah suffered burns and wounds to his body. He remains in custody at a local hospital.
