Graham Nash celebrated a milestone birthday last winter and genuinely believes he's singing better than ever.
The two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, who rose to fame in the '60s as a voice of the youth culture, tells the San Diego Union-Tribune he's proud of but also surprised at the longevity of his tenor and his career.
"Even at 80, I am singing better than I ever have, and I mean that sincerely," he told the newspaper. "I'm not a man to brag. But when you reach this age — ha-ha! — am I supposed to be doing this well?"
While Nash's hard-partying days have long past, he says he's remains a regular cannabis user and has no plans to ever stop.
"I do smoke pot, and it doesn't affect my voice at all," he adds.
If you want proof, you need only listen to his latest album, Graham Nash: Live - Songs for Beginners / Wild Tales, a compilation of live performances from 2019.
"I mean, listen to my new live album," he says of the record, which arrived in March. "I've been stoned at every show I've done for the past 50 or 60 years."
Nash isn't crediting the pot with his longevity, mind you. It's simply part of his pre-show routine; why change it now? He adds that he feels "relatively healthy. I eat well. I exercise. I take care of myself. I'd love to play the Royal Albert Hall when I'm 85."
