Last night we learned the shocking news that J. Geils, founder of the J. Geils Band, had passed away at his home in Massachusetts at the age of 71.

The first time I ever saw J. Geils was at Madison Square Garden and they were opening up for Emerson Lake and Palmer in the early 70s. A very eclectic mix of music.

You may have heard some calls this morning during Quinn & Cantara about folks remembering the riot that took place at SPAC in the 80s during a J. Geils show. Something I'll never forget. They even banned rock shows at SPAC for a little while after that.

Gone too soon. May he rest in peace.
