OZZY: An All-Star Brits Tribute

The Brit Awards, the U.K.'s version of the Grammys, paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne Saturday night in Manchester, England. Ozzy was given a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award that was accepted by Sharon, Jack and Kelly Osbourne. Sharon said in her acceptance speech, "I wish he was here to accept it himself. I know Ozzy is looking down on us all now and I know what he's thinking. He'll be saying, 'Hey Missus, shut the [eff] up.'" That was followed by British star Robbie Williams covering "No More Tears" backed by group of musicans that all spent lengthy stints on Ozzy's solo band -- guitarist Zakk Wylde, Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, keyboardist Adam Wakeman and drummer Tommy Clufetos. In other Ozzy tribute news, Wednesday night's episode of The Masked Singer is titled "Ozzfest Night."

JOURNEY: The Final Frontier Begins

Journey kicked off their Final Frontier tour Saturday in Hershey, Pennsylvania with a two-hour-and-15-minute set of hits and deep cuts -- and a bunch of songs not sung by vocalist Arnel Pineda. Pineda sang the first four songs, which included hits like "Only the Young" and "Stone in Love," and then keyboardist Jonathan Cain, who says this is his last Journey tour, stepped up to sing "Just the Same Way" from Evolution. Then drummer Deen Castronovo sang lead on "Lights." Castronovo also sang lead on "Mother, Father," and shared lead vocals with Cain on "Feeling That Way" and "Anytime." Multi-instrumentalist Jason Derlatka sang "Suzanne" and "I'll Be Alright Without You." And in change of pace from a normal concert, the band didn't do an encore. They did their final song, "Don't Stop Believin'," and were done for the night. The

Final Frontier tour continues tonight (Monday) in Pittsburgh.

RUSH: Ultimatum

Geddy Lee gave Alex Lifeson an ultimatum when it came to deciding whether to reunite as Rush. Lee tells The Guardian, "I told Al: ‘Look, we’re either doing this or we’re not doing it. I can’t talk about it every two years. Because time marches on and I don’t how much time we have. So if we’re going to do it, we do it now. If we don’t, fine, let’s just not talk about it.”

And Lifeson says, “True story.” Of course, with drummer Neil Peart passing away in 2020 from brain cancer, they questioned whether or not they could find someone to fill his seat. With that they reached out to Anika Nilles, whose resume includes a stint in Jeff Beck's band. Lee

says while they were impressed with her drumming skills, he adds that "something felt wrong" when they started rehearsing with her.

"I was, of course ‘This is not gonna work.’ Those seemingly impossible fills were not a problem for her at all. What was difficult was understanding a relationship between snare, bass drum and hi-hat that’s different from her training. “The first four days were up and down, and she was nervous, and she was jet lagged, and we were unsure. We had a little chat before the last day – ‘I don’t know, Al, is this going to work?’ We talked about all the things we liked about her, and what a work ethic she has, nice person, and deep knowledge, deep technical ability. So, there’s a lot of positives. So, let’s not be hasty. And we went into that last day and she just nailed it.” Lifeson adds, "She suddenly understood what we were talking about that whole week. Not about the technical aspect, but about the stuff in between the big stuff, that Neil was just so amazing at and those internal dynamics that only another drummer can understand, and it clicked in her.” And as for her fitting in with Lee and Lifeson off stage, Lee says, "Anika is very quiet, and she’s sliding into our friendship.”

Rush will begin their Fifty Something tour on June 7th at The Forum in Inglewood, California, which is where they did their last show on August 1st, 2015.

Sammy Hagar Speaks Out On New Van Halen Project

We told you last month that Alex Van Halen was working on a new Van Halen project featuring unreleased music from the vaults. We also told you that the project was still in search of a vocalist. Speaking on the "Rock of Nations" show late last week, Sammy Hagar and bassist / vocalist Michael Anthony were asked if they are participating in the project. "No. We haven't been asked, number one," Hagar replied. "I can tell you, Mike and I, the day I walked in the studio, in 5150, to basically, if you wanna call it, an audition, but to meet the guys and to play music, we played for about eight hours at least. And we recorded everything. Everything that I ever did, and every time we made a record, we recorded hundreds of hours of jams and music, and then we'd cut 'em up, made songs," he explained, adding "But I'm disappointed that Mike and I wouldn't be invited. It's, like, what? Are you kidding me? We're still alive. We're out here doing it. We're playing those songs. We can still do it, you know?"

Radiohead Latest To Denounce Use Of Their Music In ICE Videos

Radiohead is demanding that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement take down a social media video that used the band's song "Let Down" without permission. ICE posted the video on February 18th as part of its "This is our why" campaign, pairing the 1997 song from "OK Computer" with images of Americans the administration says were victims of crimes committed by undocumented immigrants. The band responded bluntly, saying the song was used without their consent and ending their statement with a sharp message telling ICE to go after themselves. The Department of Homeland Security did not directly say whether they would comply.
