man accused of dropping off rice cookers in downtown New York arrested

The man accused of dropping off rice cookers in downtown New York Friday morning, has been taken into custody, CNN reported Saturday, citing law enforcement officials with knowledge of the situation.

Authorities tracked the man to a Bronx address where they discovered him unconscious around 2 a.m. The suspect was taken into custody on a previous bench warrant unrelated to the incident on Friday. He has not been charged in connection with the rice cookers.

While tweeting a photo of the suspect, Chief Dermot Shea confirmed the suspect had been located.

"The below individual has been located and the investigation continues. ⁦Thank you to all who called in tips as well as our federal partners who as ALWAYS stand by our side," Shea tweeted.

The three rice cookers discovered Friday morning were initially described as "suspicious devices," causing security concerns and multiple delays during the busy morning subway commute. A passenger discovered the first two rice cookers at around 7 a.m. at the Fulton Street station in lower Manhattan, prompting police to evacuate the station. A third device was discovered near a trash can less than a mile away from the subway station.

Officials reviewed security tapes and discovered footage that showed a white man in his 20s or 30s, pushing a shopping cart while leaving the rice cookers at the scene.
