Sad day for the classic rock community. For Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist, Ed King, has passed away. The Tennessean reports that according to a post on King's Facebook page he died at his home on Wednesday.

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Ed King who died at his home in Nashville, Tennessee on August 22nd, 2018. We thank his many friends and fans for their love and support of Ed during his life and career.

Ed King played guitar with Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1972-1975 and then again from 1987-1996. he was a co-ariter of Skynyrd's iconic "Sweet Home Alabama." While Ronnie Van Zant wrote the lyrics it was King and Gary Rossington who wrote the music. It would be hard to find anyone who didn't recognize that opening riff.

In the photo below Ed King is pictured on the right with Derek St. Holmes to the left.
