2018 Grammys: Rock and Metal Winners

Mastodon, Foo Fighters, Leonard Cohen, The National, and The War On Drugs won big at the pre-telecast ceremony of the 60th annual Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden in New York City. 

Leonard Cohen was posthumously awarded "Best Rock Performance" for "You Want It Darker," a track off the album of the same name which came out only 19 days before his death. He joins David Bowie and Ray Charles to be posthumously awarded by the Grammys. 

Best Rock Performance:

 "You Want It Darker" — Leonard Cohen -- WINNER

"The Promise" — Chris Cornell

"Run" — Foo Fighters

"No Good" — Kaleo

"Go To War" — Nothing More

Mastodon took home "Best Metal Performance" at the awards for "Sultan's Curse" off their album Emperor of Sand. The Atlanta, GA natives have been to the Grammys before, having been nominated in the category for "Colony of Birchmen" in 2007 and "High Road" in 2015. "Thank you to Judas Priest and Black Sabbath for creating this kind of music that we call home," drummer Brann Dailor said during his acceptance speech.

"Sultan’s Curse" — Mastodon -- WINNER

"Clockworks" — Meshuggah

Foo Fighters won "Best Rock Song" for "Run" off their 9th studio album Concrete and Gold, beating out Metallica, K.Flay, Nothing More, and Avenged Sevenfold, who boycotted the Grammys for not televising the Rock categories.

"The Stage" — Zachary Baker, Brian Haner, Matthew Sanders, Jonathan Seward & Brooks Wackerman, songwriters (Avenged Sevenfold)

Philadelphia's The War On Drugs beat out some big competition and took home "Best Rock Album" for A Deeper Understanding. The group has built a diehard fanbase through touring and hitting the festival circuit over the past few years.

Villains — Queens Of the Stone Age

A Deeper Understanding — The War On Drugs -- WINNER

The National, who told iHeartRadio backstage at ALTer EGO they were not "expecting anything" in the competitive category, won "Best Alternative Music Album" for Sleep Well Beast. Band member Scott Devendorf told reporters backstage that the experience was  “wonderful, special, interesting, surprising and fun.”
