We've all learned from prison (movies and TV, duh) that you can pretty much use anything to make some alcohol. It's all in the distilling process. But did you know that there are distilling companies using some unusual products to create some unique booze?

USA Today reports that places like New Jersey's Asbury Park Distilling are constantly pushing the envelope and looking for that next big thing.

For instance Russians use stale bread, add yeast, and turn it into a tangy carbonated beer.

So here are a few items being used to day to create some pretty awesome booze:

  1. Artichokes
  2. Sweet Potatoes
  3. Carrots
  4. Fermented Mare's Milk (Kumis from China)
  5. Quinoa
  6. Wormwood (Sounds like it's straight out of Lord of the Rings)
