Robert Plant is finally releasing footage of his 2003 trip to Mali when he performed at the Festival in the Desert. He has taken the footage and will release it in eight installments through his website and YouTube. Episode one is now up and it shows him watching the locals do a late night street dance and ends with him sitting around a campfire singing a Ben E. King song with African blues artist Ali Farka Touré.
Plant says, "[The trip] took us from the scurry and bustle of our world into the homeland of the Tuareg, the Sahel of Mali, Timbuctoo, and north to Essakane. A journey that could only reinforce the power and the great gift of music across and between cultures… sharing outside of language."
