Sting has announced a September 24 release date for "The Last Ship," his first solo album of all-original material since 2003's "Sacred Love" and a collection that features songs composed for the stage musical of the same name that did not make the final cut.

The album was produced by Rob Mathes (Eric Clapton, Elton John, Lou Reed) and will be released in a variety of formats, including 12- and 17-song versions and a 20-song edition exclusively for

"The Last Ship" music had its first public reading on May 16, and Sting is currently seeking funding to mount the production -- which is inspired by his upbringing in Newcastle, Britain's shipbuilding center -- in 2015.
