Former Eagles guitarist Don Felder is featured in the latest issue of Motor Trend magazine.

A car aficionado since he was a kid, he talks about how and why he went from being a Porsche driver 25 years ago to a lover of Mercedes Benz now. He used to teach his son how to drive a manual transmission in his Porsche 911 S, but then he realized he was leaving a very fast, very small car alone with a teenager when he'd go out on tour.

Felder says, "For general safety reasons for myself and for my fear that I had with a car like that with a soon-to-be-teenager in the house, I decided to trade it and I got a Mercedes and fell in love with them. Once I got into driving those little Mercedes convertibles, I just absolutely loved it. They feel great, they have great crash safety ratings, mechanically they're unbelievably sound, and I've been driving them ever since." He says he's had around 20 of them over the years and he leases them because, with all the touring he does, he drives maybe 3000 miles a year.

Felder's favorite drive is Los Angeles to Big Sur on Highway 1. The car he learned to drive in was a 1961 Chevrolet Corvair, and the first car he bought was a 1965 Volvo 122S.
