During the “I-90/94 Challenge”, law enforcement from 15 states will take part in the initiative focusing on education, awareness, and enforcement. The New York State Police says the four-day initiative runs August 1–4.
The I-90/94 Challenge’s goal is zero fatalities on the interstates. I-90 stretches from Massachusetts to Washington State and I-94 stretches from Michigan to Montana. The “Challenge” will cover more than 5,600 miles of highway.
In the past three years on Interstates 90 & 94 during the period of Aug. 1-4, there have been 524 total crashes, 136 injury crashes, 10 alcohol-related crashes and three fatal crashes, according to officials.
The I-90/94 Challenge is part of a yearlong campaign by the International Association of Chiefs of Police to reduce traffic fatalities in the U.S. by 15%.
