Medical marijuana is now legal in New York state as Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed it into law. 

New York is now the 23rd state to make it legal to sell marijuana for medicinal purposes, though it has one of the more restrictive programs in the country.

Cuomo says New York's law strikes the right balance between public health and public safety.

Amanda Houser, a ten-year-old girl who suffers from a form of epilepsy, was at the bill signing go thank the Governor for signing the medical marijuana bill into law.

Medical marijuana should be available in about 18 months.
